This is the part we are best at
Plenty of bakeries can put buttercream on a round cake. Far fewer will carve you a free-standing Christmas tree with individually piped branches, a Darth Vader helmet, a Dunkin coffee cup with a matching doughnut, or a stormtrooper. That carved, hand-modelled work is where we spend our time and it is what people remember.
How a sculpted cake is built
- Stack and chill. Layers are baked, filled and chilled solid so they can be cut cleanly.
- Carve. The shape is cut by hand from the chilled block, with internal dowels and boards where the design needs height.
- Cover. Fondant or modelling chocolate goes over the carved form and is smoothed into the shape.
- Detail. Figures, faces, lettering and small parts are modelled separately, left to firm up, then attached.
That sequence is why sculpted cakes need three to four weeks, the drying time is not optional.

The single most useful thing you can send is a photograph of what you want. Upload it with your quote request and we will come back with a firm price and an honest read on what will and will not translate into cake.
Common questions
Is a sculpted cake actually cake, or is some of it fake?
It is cake. We carve the shape from stacked, chilled cake layers, then build detail in fondant and modelling chocolate over the top. Internal supports (dowels and boards) hold tall shapes upright, and we tell you before serving which parts to remove.
How much more does a sculpted cake cost?
Sculpted work is priced by the hours of carving and modelling rather than by size, so it is quoted individually rather than from the size chart. As a rule of thumb a carved cake starts around double a plain round cake of the same size, because a 3D shark or a Dunkin cup is a full day of work. Send a photo and we will price it exactly.
How much notice do you need?
Three to four weeks for a fully sculpted cake. The carving itself is a day or two, but the modelled figures and detail pieces need to dry and firm up before they go on the cake.
Can you copy a specific character exactly?
We can make cakes inspired by characters for private celebrations. Send a reference photo with your quote and we will tell you how close we can get. Some characters are far easier to read in fondant than others.
How does a sculpted cake travel?
We deliver them, and we strongly recommend it. Carved cakes have a high centre of gravity and do not survive car journeys well. Delivery is quoted by distance, $20 within 10 miles of Tampa 33607 up to $55 at 30 miles, then $2.25 per mile beyond that.
